Using Canning Jars For Storage- With Plastic Lids
We use pint and quart canning jars for leftovers in the refrigerator. They save space, you can see what is in them and you can heat them in the microwave. Use Ball or Kerr jars so they don't break. You can eat your leftovers right out of the jar also.
You can transport brown gravy or some other liquid that's not in a large quantity. It is so muc...h better to do in a jar than in a bowl where it sloshes out. You can put leftover soup in jars instead of plastic bowls. If it's tomato based, it doesn't stain the jar and can be heated in the microwave and poured into bowls.
We save plastic mayo lids and peanut butter lids to use on the canning jars. I went to Wal-Mart- Lake Hallie, WI. and found Mainstays plastic canning jar lids. I bought the reg. and large mouth. $2.72/box. 8 in a box.
