Many people need horses in their lives in one way or another, whether they are riding or not. There's no need to feel guilty about letting horses be pasture ornaments. It's OK to own horses and not ride them, as long as they are properly cared for. Anyone who thinks otherwise should check out a corral packed with slaughter-bound horses or ride along with an equine rescue crew to see what really needs to be addressed in the horse industry. Some horse owners have valid reasons for not riding and horses everywhere are blessed because these people are willing to care for them. Retired, injured, aged and unsound horses/ponies still deserve a home. Even if they can no longer be ridden. These horses would be at risk for a dire fate. They need these angels- the kind and generous people willing to take those that no one wants. I, myself, have a restless spirit without a horse in my life. Horses give me happiness, routine, exercise, identity, trust, knowledge and serenity. As long as I'm able, I will continue to be a horselover and owner.
