Yesterday, we went over to Ben's. We have bought goats from him in the past. He had the misfortune of having a barn fire that killed all his champion goats that he owned. Makes me sick thinking about it. It was a new barn too. The barn rubble and dead goats were buried and he rebuilt the barn with his insurance money. He is starting his herd over. Anyway, our buck, Roscoe, is from Ben's goat's bloodline that he lost in the fire. He had sold him as a baby to some other people and we had bought him from them. We raised him and used him for breeding. He is now 3. Most of our kids are his offspring so we can't breed him to them. We only have Solo who can be bred to him. If you recall, we lost 3 of our does awhile back. So we are trading Roscoe back to Ben for a younger buck of his (6 mos. old). Another purebred that we can raise and breed any of our does to. None are related to the new buck. Ben is thrilled to get such a deal, a mature breeding buck with the lineage that he loves. Lindsey is coming Sat. with Dom. So she wants to go with Dennis to take Roscoe over to Ben's and get our new buck. I already saw all of Ben's new goats and Linds can go to see them. I will watch Dom.

Ben milked 38 goats, twice a day, by hand, in that barn that burned. He is milking a small herd again. The milk truck still picks up his milk. He says it will take 2 years or more to get back on his feet. The milk check and he substitutes teaches, is his only income. He shows his goats, milks, breeds his own and sells goats too. He is in need of milking does, so we are supposed to send people his way.
